Dr. Richard Champagne – New Jersey Invisalign Specialist
In the past, people who wanted to correct their crooked teeth had to tolerate having a mouthful of metal braces for several months or even years. As anyone who has endured conventional orthodontic treatment knows, wearing traditional metal braces can wreak havoc on a person's self-confidence. Fortunately, leading New Jersey cosmetic dentist Dr. Richard Champagne offers Invisalign, a nearly invisible way to correct crooked teeth.
With the Invisalign teeth-straightening system, patients wear a series of custom-made clear trays, or "aligners," to shift teeth gradually into place. Not only do the Invisalign aligners straighten teeth effectively, but they are almost imperceptible to others. Now patients can smile with confidence, even while straightening their teeth.
How Invisalign Corrects Crooked Teeth
Dr. Champagne develops a custom-made set of clear trays, called aligners, for each Invisalign patient. The aligners are constructed out of highly imperceptible plastic and are worn over the natural teeth. Patients simply click aligners into place.
Using the aligners as directed by Dr. Champagne will move the teeth into place little by little. In contrast to straightening teeth with conventional braces, Invisalign patients do not need to bother with metal brackets or pesky wires that require periodic tightening. Instead, they simply pop in a new set of trays approximately every two weeks. They continue this process until they are happy with their newly straightened teeth.
What to Expect During Treatment
To initiate Invisalign treatment, Dr. Champagne takes photos, X-rays and a mold of each patient's teeth, which he sends to Invisalign. Then, the Invisalign clinician uses the information to create both a digital three-dimensional (3D) illustration of each person's teeth and the patient's customized aligners.
Dr. Champagne can access the 3D image for use in developing a personalized treatment plan for the patient. He can also use the image to produce a digital simulation of how the patient's teeth will improve over time.
Once patients receive their aligners, they wear them for about 22 hours a day. Patients should only remove aligners to eat or to brush and floss their teeth. They can even wear aligners while drinking cool or room-temperature liquids. Although, patients should not drink hot liquids while wearing aligners as they can warp the plastic.
Again, patients advance through each new set of aligners until their teeth have gradually moved into place, achieving the radiant smile they have always wanted. Meanwhile, they visit Dr. Champagne about every six weeks or as directed by the New Jersey dentist to monitor progress and pick up any new aligners as needed.
Total treatment time varies depending on individual factors, such as how crooked a person's teeth are to begin with. In general, however, Invisalign treatment takes about a year for adults. For teenagers, the duration of treatment lasts about as long as it would with conventional braces.
Benefits of Invisalign
In addition to allowing patients to straighten their teeth almost invisibly, another advantage of Invisalign is that patients can eat easily, without the hassle that conventional braces can cause. Patients simply remove aligners each time they eat. After eating, patients can wash the aligners, rinse out their mouth and then click the aligners back into place, without worrying if food is stuck in the brackets.
Also, Invisalign aligners are BPA-free, and the plastic aligners do not typically irritate the gums or cheeks like conventional metal braces can.
This innovative system helps patients achieve a dazzling smile without all the bother of metal braces.
How to Care for Invisalign at Home
Patients should use toothpaste and cool water to brush aligners every time they remove them. Avoid hot water, so the aligners do not become warped. Those undergoing Invisalign treatment can remove aligners to brush and floss their teeth as usual. Avoid wrapping aligners in tissue, paper napkins or similar items, so they do not get thrown away by accident.
